I wanted to find a way to link all of my sketchbook doodles together into one single project,
but without placing any limits on the free way that I doodle. In other words, to make something
of a project but without constraining myself to a visual style.

I took a passage from a book I read in the early 90's, I typed it out, adapted it a little bit, then
I printed it it and chopped up the paper into single words or short phrases. I put all these slips
of paper into my wallet, and whenever the opportunity came to doodle, I would take one out
at random and work with whatever words were on the slip.

I had forgotten what the passage as a whole said, and so each little piece has a narative of
its own, quite independently from the whole thing. Sometimes it was easy to evoke a narrative
for the words on the slips, but sometimes they were totally abstract, so I allowed myself to be
influenced by mysurroundings at the time.

I only rediscovered what the pasage says when I finally put the pieces into numerical order
whilst assembling this online presentation.

I have tried to contact Katherine Dunn, the author of the original piece, but with no success.
If anyone out there happens to know where Katherine Dunn is, please make her aware of this
project. I hoped to gain her blessing to do it but she remained elusive.
